Tour of Gubbio to discover Dante Alighieri’s path. The tradition says the presence of Dante Alighieri in Gubbio as an exile, it is also said that the “great poet” had a friend in Gubbio, Bosone Novello Raffaelli who between 1316 and 1317 was mayor of Arezzo.

In these verses the poet Giosuè Carducci ironically remembers that the realization of the Divine Comedy is indirectly due to Cante Gabrielli, that enacted the sentence for Dante, in fact, it seems that the exile was the inspiration for the poet. Dante received the first sentence of exile for two years from Tuscany, then the second one at the stake.
In 1335 Cante Gabrielli died in Gubbio, perhaps poisoned by the Ghibellines of Gubbio. The little information about the circumstances of his death have given rise to several hypotheses including that of a posthumous revenge of Dante that would commissioned his murder, with the help of Bosone Raffaelli’s family notoriously ghibellina and fighting against the Gabrielli’s family for the supremacy over the city.

Second day – Gubbio – Torre dei Calzolari – Gubbio
Breakfast at hotel and departure with the electric car to “Torre dei Calzolari”, visit of the castle of Colmollaro of Bosone Novello which hosted Dante. Being here Dante described very accurately the landscape around Gubbio, “Intra Tupino e l’acqua che discende dal colle eletto dal Beato Ubaldo, (Paradiso Canto XI) “Tra due liti d’Italia surgon sassi, .. e fanno un gibbo che si chiama Catria… “ (Paradiso Canto XXI).
The castle is reached through pristine woods, accompanied by the melodic voice of Saonda stream. The narrow valley that it dominates gives a complete detachment from modernity, to find a link with the nature and with the past.
Lunch to the “Scuderia di Torre Calzolari”.
In the afternoon possibility of a horse ride.
Dinner at Hotel.
Overnight at the Hotel.
Third day Gubbio
Breakfast at the hotel.
Drop – off at 10.00 am
Laboratory “Arte del Libro” of Unaluna. A fun experience to create miniatures of natural cotton paper to decorate the initial letters of its name.
Lunch at the restaurant.
